Erin Laughton ~ Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Meet Erin

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck between where they are and where they wish they could be, unsure how to begin or what to expect.

My role is to help you slow things down, notice what’s happening beneath the surface, and approach your experiences with curiosity and compassion.

Together, we uncover new ways of understanding and responding to yourself and others, so change begins to feel possible, step by step, in a way that feels sustainable and true to you.

Erin Laughton Photograph Therapist in Oakville and Mississauga Ontario
  • Erin is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and a graduate of Martin Luther University College, where she earned her Master of Arts in Theology, Spiritual Care, and Psychotherapy. She was recognized for Outstanding Campus Leadership and Excellence in Scriptural Studies, reflecting her commitment to growth, integrity, and community care.

Throughout her clinical training at the Centre for Family Medicine, she has worked with clients across the lifespan, including a strong focus on seniors and caregivers. Her clinical experience includes working with anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, trauma, grief, chronic illness, dementia, and caregiver stress, as well as relationship and family challenges.

She also co-facilitated a “Boundaries for Improving Relationships” psycho-educational group, a structured, 8-week program centred on communication, boundaries, assertiveness, and conflict management. This experience deepened her passion for group therapy and relational work, as she supported participants in exploring patterns, developing self-awareness, and strengthening interpersonal skills through discussion, experiential learning, and reflection.

Erin completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University, where her studies culminated in a community-based research project examining barriers to access for persons with disabilities within local community services. This experience deepened her understanding of systemic challenges and accessibility, reinforcing her commitment to equity, inclusion, and compassionate care in her therapeutic work.

Beyond her clinical work, she co-founded and facilitated the Art Hive Initiative at Wilfrid Laurier University and University of Waterloo, a creative, community-based space designed to promote emotional expression and connection through art.

Something you might like to know about Erin:

“When I’m not in the therapy room, you can usually find me behind a drum kit, exploring a new video game, or listening to The Lord of the Rings audiobooks.”

As the former president of my university’s gaming club, I’ve always valued the sense of connection and storytelling that games can bring, something I also appreciate in therapy and in life. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, often over a good documentary or a few rounds of billiards. I love a good cup of tea or coffee, a great soundtrack, and finding calm in creativity, curiosity, and community. One of my favourite lessons from my drum teacher was that sometimes in order for things to move forward, you just need to slow down.
