FAQs about our Family Therapy Services in Mississauga

  • Family therapy involves counselling with some or all of your family members to improve communication, resolve perpetual family conflicts, mediate family issues, support families with reconciliation following separation or estrangement, and generally improving and strengthening relationships amongst family members.

  • While it would be great for all members to attend, we know that sometimes this is not possible for various reasons. Family therapy can done with all willing participants from your family. If other members agree to join later down the road, they would be welcome. We are here to meet your family where they’re at and to support your family with building and maintaining healthy relationships.

At times, your family therapist may suggest sessions with individuals alone or some family members separately when beneficial to support progress.

  • Family therapy sessions usually last from 50-80 minutes. There are times when families will request longer sessions and more intensive family therapy.

Families can feel positive differences after just a few sessions and others may require more time if there are deeper, long-standing issues that need to be addressed.

  • Before your first visit, talk to your family about your goals and hopes for the visit. List the challenges you want to address. Arrive open to honest discussion. Your therapist will guide you through realistic expectations and help all family members to feel they are in a safe space to discuss and meet their goals for family therapy.
